Today we will be going over one of our manual 6 speed TR-6060 transmission rebuilds. This manual transmission is from a 2008 Chevrolet C6 Corvette Z06. This style TR-6060 transmission is correct for the 2008-2013 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 models.
To start this build out, we first secure the transmission so it will not move while we work on it. From here we start to remove the end cover as shown to get into the internals.
- The Tremec Magnum is the state-of-the-art 6-speed manual transmission. They are original equipment in some of the world’s best Supercars such as the ZR1 Corvette and the ACR Viper — capable of handling 700 lb-ft. The TR6060 makes an excellent upgrade when installed in in any 2005 to 2010 Mustang GT. The torque handling capacity will be be drastically increased to 600ft/lb. Unfortunately we will only be able to accept a TR6060 core on exchange. The Tremec TR-6060 6-speed manual transmission returns for the 2010 GT500 but has been enhanced with larger clutch discs (250 mm (9.8 in) versus the 215 mm (8.5 in) discs used previously) and other measures to increase performance and noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) control. Additionally, the fifth and sixth gear ratios of the.
With the cover removed we can start taking the gears out one at a time. With those internals removed we can then removed the center housing and set it to the side.
With the center case removed, we can start tearing down the remaining internals. Once those are done we have finished the dismantling of the transmission and are now ready to start the rebuild.
Now with the rebuild of this transmission about to begin, you need to make sure you have your replacement parts ready to go. For our build we decided to replace all the syncros, both the input and counter shaft. We also replaced the front cover as well as the pump that is mounted to it. Do not forget as with any rebuild that gets done you should replace all the seals and with this one we even upgraded the blocker rings on this transmission.
As we stated in the last step, we ended up upgraded the blocker rings to a carbon blocker ring set. The picture shows the old style on the left and the new carbon ones on the right. We replaced both input and counter shaft due to the old ones showing signs of ware when we started the build.
At this point we start to install the first set of internals back onto the base plate. Its very important to make sure that each part gets installed in the correct order.
With this section of the internals installed the center case is then placed back onto the base plate and bolted back down. Everything should fit together just right if it was put back together correctly.

At this point the final thing to do is reinstall the last section of the housing. This then finishes the whole build from start to finish.
